Was wondering if this would work as a direct application to the plastic rather than running the guard too?

You can apply the Pre-Cut Gripper decals directly to the plastics. However, the fit will not be exact. We also offer 13"x18" bulk sheets of Gripper material as an alternative. Bulk Material
